Help us help you!
The first thing you should do right now is to make sure your physical address numbers are clearly visible and are at
least three inches tall. Larger is even better! No matter what type of emergency you may have, if we can't find you we can't
help you.
Remember, any emergency you have to dial 911. Give your name, address, and the emergency you are experiencing. Stay on
the line with the operator until they tell you otherwise.

Smoke detector tips
You should test your smoke detectors the first day of each month. Replace batteries twice per year. A good way to remember
is change them when the time changes in the fall and spring. You should have a smoke detector inside each bedroom, and in
the hallway outside the bedroom. Place detectors on each level of your house, including your attic. You cannot have too many!
Also, have at least one carbon monoxide detector in your home.
Home evacuation plan
Practice a fire drill in your home. Make a drawing and see how you will escape in case of a fire. Always plan
for two ways to get out of each room in your house. Have a predetermined meeting place outside of your home for all family
members to meet after escaping. Examples are mailboxes, barns, sheds, fences just to name a few. Do remember to make
the place a safe distance from your home.
Fire extinguisher tips
Every homeowner should have a fire extinguisher. If you decide to purchase one, get one that is rated to use on A, B,
and C class fires. Also, in proper use of an extinguisher, remember the acronym PASS. Pull the pin(P), Aim it at the base
of the fire (A), Squeeze the trigger (S), Sweep the extinguisher from side to side (S).

Candles
Everyone loves candles during the holidays. However, homes are lost to fire each year because of unattended burning candles.
When everyone is leaving your home, remember to blow out all the candles!
